About Us

The SGM Wellington organising group are: Jo Anastasiadis (Brooklyn), Helen Tripp (Petone), Chris Hartley (Oriental Pde. and Terry Alve (Tawa).

We are members of local Christian churches and groups who are drawn together by a contemplative approach to Christian prayer, worship and practice. By inclination we are interdenominational in outlook and foster good relationships with local churches.

Some of us are lay ministers; others ordained ministers. Most of us have completed training as spiritual directors through the NZ SGM training programme. We are members of the Association of Christian Spiritual Directors - ANZ. As spiritual directors we receive direction ourselves and ministry supervision as we reflect on our ministry practice.

SGM Wellington, while associated with SGM Nationally, is a distinct entity dedicated to promoting contemplative spirituality in the Greater Wellington Region of central New Zealand. Characteristics of this region are the sea, the hills, the clouds and mountains and reasonable sunshine, more along the Kapiti Coast than in Wellington City. These elements are stylised in the logo image. NZ contemplative spirituality draws strongly on the local physical and geographical environment as a source of inspiration and as a pathway to encounter God. The Autumn colouring is particularly reminiscent of the hues associated with the rising and the setting sun.
